AMD's Zen architecture was a milestone in CPU architecture and a stroke of genius for the Texas chipmaker. But instead of resting on its laurels, AMD has continued to develop the "Zen" processors diligently. For example, AMD introduced a chiplet design with the "Ryzen 3000 and 5000" processor family based on the "Zen2" or "Zen3" architecture. The new Ryzens consist of 12 nm I/O dies and CPU dies that are manufactured using a 7 nm process.
However, this chiplet design has also changed the layout of the CPU dies on the package, which has also shifted the thermal center. On a processor with only one CPU die under the heatspreader, the "hot spot" is in the center of the CPU. However, the "hot spot" is shifted to the edge of the processor due to the chiplet design.
Of course, this also has an influence on the cooling behavior of CPU coolers and CPU water coolers. As a rule, custom water coolers are designed by the manufacturer in such a way that the heat dissipation is highest in the middle of the base plate. For optimal cooling performance, the base plate of the water cooler would have to be moved.

The der8auer RYZEN 3000/5000 OC custom mounting frame replaces the mounting system (AMD Socket AM4 Retention Mounting Bracket) on the mainboard. Accordingly, the der8auer RYZEN 3000/5000 OC custom mounting frame offers a very high level of compatibility with AM4 mainboards.

So far only X570 motherboards have been tested for compatibility. However, the der8auer RYZEN 3000/5000 OC Custom mounting frame will also be compatible with a variety of older AM4 motherboards in ATX and E-ATX form factors. With Mini-ITX mainboards, there are often components in the way that prevent the kit from being used.

The actual possible reduction in temperature by using the Ryzen 3000/5000 OC mounting frame depends on the CPU and CPU cooler used.
